This was my first time going abroad. I visited Canada for one month, participating in the SEA Program. I lived in Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta, and stayed with my host family. The school I attended was part of the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. In the class, we focused on science topics. The purpose of this program, English for Science and Technology, was to improve my English and science skills. Generally, I took the English class in the morning and participated in various types of activities in the afternoon.

In terms of the morning class, I learned many techniques, such as writing, presentation, and effective reading methods. Giving presentations in English was particularly valuable because I had seldom given presentations in Japan. Moreover, the presentation topics were about science, which required academic research skills, unlike casual presentation topics like hobbies or self-introductions. For that reason, it was challenging for me and took a long time to complete all the steps, such as deciding on a theme or making presentation slides. However, I was able to enhance my presentation and cooperative skills since I had to deliver a presentation with my partner, who was from a different university.

Furthermore, my program provided me with several attractive activities, including playing and watching Canadian winter sports, a trip to Jasper National Park, and tours of some science laboratories. In particular, the most exciting experience for me was watching an ice hockey game, which is famous in Canada. Initially, I was not interested in it, but it truly inspired me, and I became enthusiastic about it. One of the biggest reasons I would like to return to Canada is to watch an ice hockey game in person again.

Finally, I had a great time with my host family. Since they are from Asia, I was able to enjoy some Asian cuisines, which helped me not to miss Japan too much, and those dishes were so delicious that I wanted to eat them again and again. I was glad to hear that my host family would welcome me back if I visit Canada again in the future.
